We often hear customers with this skin type say to remove their excess face oil; they will religiously cleanse their skin when they start to feel oily, or that they would avoid using moisturizers. As skincare specialists, we can confirm that these are some of the biggest skincare mistakes anyone can make. See below for our customized skincare routine for our oily skin belifers!
Cleanse and tone
Gentle and non-stripping cleansers can be used to melt makeup or deeply clean skin. Exfoliating is extremely important for oily skin to remove excessive sebum to unclog your pores. Then, apply belif's botanical toners to balance the skin's pH after cleansing.
1) Cleansing water
Cleansing water is great for oily skin, due to its non-slippery, non-oily, non-irritating, refreshing consistency. You will be surprised to find out its powerful cleansing effect. With water-soluble hydrating ingredients, it cleans out make-up and impurities effectively and leaves the skin feeling refreshed and hydrated.
The Cleansing Herb Water - formulated with Dill, Burdock, and St.John's wort, belif's Tri Herb complex relieves daily stress and makes the skin clean, clear and fresh.
2) Foam Cleansing
A foaming cleanser removes water soluble ingredients such as dirt and dust easily picked up from air. A clear gel-type cleanser is more suitable for oily skin, leaving your skin feeling clean and refreshed without tightness. Ensure that cold or luke warm water is used to wash the face as it can further dry out the skin.
The Crystal Cleansing Foam- formulated with Soapberry, actively dissolves excess sebum and deep cleanses the pores, without drying out the skin.
Individuals with oily skin can exfoliate up to 2-3 times a week, depending on skin's sensitivity and also the type of exfoliant. With any skin type however, we always recommend a light scrub as they do not damage skin capillaries leading to redness and irritation on the skin. Exfoliation can eliminate the excess dead skin build-up, which can encourage bacteria growth and cause acne.
Mild & Effective Facial Scrub- formulated with Bracken seeds and cotton fibres, along with lemon balm, this exfoliator can detoxify the skin and unclog pores, consequently improving skin texture and break outs.
Toners help to balance skin pH. Ideally, everyone's skin should be pH 5-6, which will keep the skin slightly moisturized. Toners for oily skin tend to have more anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that can help with impurities, acne and also oil absorption. They also tend to be more watery in nature to prevent a greasy finish on the skin.
Eucalyptus Herbal Extract Toner - formulated with Eucalyptus and Apple Mint, this toner will clarify skin and reduce inflammation on breakouts.
Moisturizing is the key
Antioxidant-filled essences help boost the effects of your moisturizer by setting an ultra-hydrating base. Our moisturizers use plant-based ingredients to leave skin looking soft & supple without getting greasy. Don't forget to flood fine lines around the eyes with intense moisture for instantly younger-looking eyes.
The skin is made up of the epidermis (outer layer) and the dermis (under layer). Essences are formulated with much more compact water molecules that can penetrate into the skin's dermis. This is ideal for anyone with oily skin as it can plump the skin with water and become instantly hydrated. As a result, skin with higher water content will produce less oil on its surface. Interestingly, an essence can also be used as a booster serum before the toner to intensify moisture and product absorption.
Hungarian Water Essence- extremely rich in anti-oxidants, this serum can instantly replenish water into the skin, consequently preventing the skin to become less oily.
These are lighter in consistency but will help to achieve an optimal level of hydration when used in combination with a cream.
Oil Control Moisturizer Fresh- formulated with rosehip, which is densely packed with vitamin c, this moisturizer can help refine pores as well as provide a fresh and smooth finish on the skin.
7) Eye Cream
Frequently neglected, this step is crucial for any skin type as it targets one of the first areas we see signs of aging. Eye creams are formulated for very fine and fragile skin, and they can prevent the skin surrounding from dehydration. They will also improve the appearance of fine lines over time.
Moisturizing and Firming Eye Cream- formulated with Yarrow and Bilberry, this eye cream can provide long-lasting moisture and firmness to the skin without feeling greasy on the skin. Suitable for all skin types.
Finish off your routine with a light weight cream. Depending on how oily you are, you may opt for an oil free one. Regardless, your moisturizer should always be water-based and resemble a gel-like consistency. This step is crucial for oily skin as it helps seal all the products together and prevent free radicals from entering the skin. Not only does it prevent moisture loss, but it also prevents dirt and pollution from entering our pores, which can increase the likelihood of breakouts.
Aqua Bomb- formulated with Lady`s Mantle, this weightless, oil-free moisturizer can increase hydration levels by 18% and provide detoxifying properties on the skin, leaving its appearance more healthy and smooth.
Go the extra miles with masks
Masks are the ultimate skincare essential everyone must have. We believe that this step is equally as important as any other skincare steps we have suggested. They can purify, hydrate or deep clean the skin depending on its consistency and the type of ingredients. They can provide an intense treatment for your skin but most importantly, you can also feel pampered in the comfort of your own home.
One of our favourite tips for making the best use out of your mask is to exfoliate beforehand so that your pores can open up and absorb all the nutrients effectively. So go ahead; spoil yourself and explore some of our personal recommendations for our oily skin belifers!
